296 Squadron extra-mural activities.

The squadron was renowned for the band, football team, .22 rifle shooting teams, athletics - my brother John Drapper wishes you to have a 61 Group Tie awarded to him for success in this competition. If memory serves Cpl Terry Maynard was a Group boxing champion.

One of the most spectacular achievements was that of the synchronised .303 rifle drill squad under the command of F/O George Summers (a former Army Officer in the Chindits). This squad were forerunners and performed precision and intricate series of drills without oral commands as later copied by the RAF Regiment and US Forces.
